On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina - Escondido: Reviews & Ratings
The hubby n I ordered and shared the mixed fajitas, and they were amazing! Friendly staff, who kept our drinks and chips n salas full until our food arrived. Clean bathrooms, too. We'll definitely return.
Great dinner, the fish tacos were delicious! Our server was very friendly and the manager made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely recommend this restaurant!
I recently dined at On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina in Escondido, and it was a delightful experience! This restaurant is a great spot to enjoy authentic Mexican food. The staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was fantastic, though it did take a little time to be served. However, that was perfectly fine, as we were happy to wait for such delicious offerings. One highlight was the guacamole, which is made fresh right next to your table—what a fun and interactive touch! I highly recommend On the Border for anyone craving Mexican cuisine. The combination of great food and friendly service makes it a wonderful dining choice!
I took my mom to this restaurant simply because of the cute cantina appearance on the exterior. It was in a word: inviting. I hoped that the service and food would be as nice and make us want to return again in the future. Oh, and it was. As soon as we were seated, we were presented with a bowl of chips lightly salted, and our separate bowls of salsa. Or should I say, “Spicy hot salsa?” Yum!We sat for a bit longer than I preferred before our orders were taken, but once Jesus was aware of our presence and desire to order, he was on it. He made sure that we were completely satisfied and made a few rounds just in case we wanted anything at all. I like that. The food is 70% of what a review is all about, right? So let’s talk food. It was scrumptious! Absolutely inviting and a pleasant party in my mouth. We ordered the Border Queso Beef Enchiladas. My mom got ground beef that she was in Heaven with. I got shredded beef, and let me tell you, they did not skimp on the filling. I’m attaching a photo to show you just how filled those soft corn tortillas were. We got our money’s worth and will definitely be there again for that plate of wonderful. We ordered Pineapple Rum Punch drinks. Don’t be fooled by the great flavor and no aftertaste of alcohol. There is rum in there, but such a perfect blend of flavors that you’ll want another. I only had one because I had to drive, but man I wish I could duplicate that at home! I loved it. In the end, if you visit this cantina bar and grill, you will be like us… you’ll want to return in the very near future. The food was well worth the price and the service was good. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is the limited offering for wheelchair accessible persons. The hostess had to figure out how to best seat us, and placed us at an end table, removing a chair. Had that table already been taken, I’m not too sure where we would have sat. Doing this limited the walkway, but did not block it, so I was okay with it. Visit this place and tell ‘em’ TC Freebird sent you. It may not get you a discount, but the plate is worth every dollar. I am proof of that. I never finish a plate of food. I get full fast, but I killed that plate! The rice and beans were perfect, which I’ve not been able to say about other cantinas. And the enchiladas? I’m telling you, you’ll scream out loud in joy before you realize what you’ve done. Delish!!
Not authentic Mexican food, but a good alternative. It falls more inline with commercial grade America Mexican food that we all know. The food had a slightly bland flavor that was easily remedied by a little salsa they bring to the table when you first sit down. The service was quick and the decor was basic, but fun. The chips they brought to table were a bit bland and stale. I sure do miss the large hand cut and fried ones they used to serve. Over all... Not bad, but a lot of other options for really good authentic Mexican food just right up the street.
Chips and salsa are always fresh and good! We got sitted right away. Food was quick and delicious!
Hard to find an on the border around san Diego now. But on the way back home from the San Diego Safari Park we saw this. No way it's still open!? So we drove up and to our surprise it was. We decided to go in and have a bite. Took them a while to seat us and it was busy. More people to serve then they had servers. But they did a good job with the workers they had, they were very friendly. The food was good, definitely not the best Mexican food you can have. But brought some good memories from years ago. We ordered a couple beers and the queso and guac for an appetizer. The queso was just regular nacho cheese but good. I got a combination plate that had 4 items and rice and beans and girlfriend chose the pick 3 items. Combination plate included: mini chimichanga, hard taco, green chicken enchilada, and a red cheese enchilada. Pick 3 included: rice and beans, green pork enchilada, chile relleno, and hard taco. Out of those items our favorites were, the beans, chile relleno, cheese enchilada, pork enchilada, and the hard taco. I would definitely go back if where in the area and want a quick Mexican meal and have a bit a time on our hands.
I had time in between clients popped into on the border for dinner. As usual great food fresh hot quick to the table. Waitress was a delight to work with.
